Wu ti "Lai yi bu qian qu yi bu hou" 無題 "來亦不前去亦不後"

  KT: The transmission of the poem is not consistent. The Buddhist Canon (Taishō shinshū daizōkyō) reads shi 師 in the second and third verses, whereas other works (e.g., Mochizuki bukkyō daijiten, 4.3148b) attest the variant shi 獅. Demiéville likewise adopts this latter reading, adding the annotation: “La prédication du Buddha est couramment assimilée à un rugissement de lion” (“The Buddha’s preaching is commonly likened to a lion’s roar”).
