General Introduction
On our site, you will find bibliographic information for Translations of Chinese poetry. You can find and explore these translations from different viewpoints: Poet, Poem, Translation and Translator.
- Poets can be filtered by Dynasty (e. g. Tang, Modern etc.). Clicking on a poet name will give you their »detail page«. Poet detail pages will always list all the poems by that poet listed in our database. It may also include biographical data, alternative names, links and other information.
- Poems can be filtered by Dynasty as well. (e. g. Tang, Modern etc.). Clicking on a poem name will give you its »detail page«. Poem detail pages will always list all translations of that poem listed in our database. It will also include bibliographic information on where to find the original, and optionally some additional information.
- Translators are listed alphabetically. Use the »scrollspy« bar on the right to navigate the alphabet more quickly. Clicking on a name will give you their »detail page«. Translator detail pages will always list all translations by that translator listed in our database. If there are translations for multiple poets by the same translator, the translations can be filtered by poet – to do so, click on one of the poet names. It may also include biographical data, alternative names, links and other information.
- Translations are listed alphabetically as well. Use the »scrollspy« bar on the right to navigate the alphabet more quickly. They can be filtered by language, although right now, almost all of the translations in our database are in German. Clicking on the translator name or poem title will lead you to the respective »detail page« that lists the given translation – see above.
- Sources are publications including poems or poem translations. Listed alphabetically by author, you can use the »scrollspy« bar on the right to navigate the alphabet more quickly. A click on the title will lead you to the publications detail page, with full bibliographic information, as well as a list of poems / translations we know to be in this publication, ordered by page number, if available.
Search
Our internal search allows searching for Poems, Poets, Translations, Translators and Sources. By default, we always look if ANY of the entered search terms is included. In other words, "OR" is implied when multiple search terms are entered. But you can
- type "AND" between two or more search terms to ensure that only results containing both terms are shown. For example, a search for Klöpsch AND Tang will find books by Volker Klöpsch with "Tang" in the title.
- use double quotes to search for a multiple word expression, for example "in den Bergen" will find Translations with this expression in the title.
- As implied above, it is possible to combine different result types in your search query. For example, a search for Donath AND Fischer will find books by Andreas Donath published by Fischer.
- If there are multiple result types, you can filter the results by pressing the button for one of the result types:
- If there are multiple results, you can filter them by entering an additional search term in the field labelled "Filter… results".
Search suggestions
By default, we directly show some search result suggestions below the search form field. Icons indicate the result type:
- Translation
- Poem
- Poet
- Translator
By clicking on one of the suggestions, you can directly navigate to the suggested result's detail page. Alternatively, click on the magnifying glass icon to run a search for the suggested term or expression.
You can also use your keyboard (UP, DOWN, ENTER keys) to navigate the search suggestion list.
